We end these memorial pages with what Vera
thought was important. These passages were found as notes on Vera’s
refrigerator and plaques around her house.

"A candle loses nothing of its light by
lighting another candle."
"The love in your heart wasn't put
there to stay. Love isn't love 'till you give it away"
"Love is the only game where two can
play and both win."
"Mothers hold their children's hands
for just a little while, their hearts forever!"

My Child
You are the poem I
dreamed of writing,
the masterpiece I longed to paint …
You are the
shining star I reached for
in my ever-hopeful quest for life fulfilled …
You are my child
…
Now with all
things
I am blessed.

Teach a child how he should live and he will
remember it all of his life.
Proverbs 22:6

My Son Grows Up
My hands were busy
through the day,
I didn't have much time to play
The little games you asked me to.
But when you'd bring your teddy bear
and ask me please to share your fun,
I'd say: "A little later, son."
I'd tuck you in
all safe at night
And hear your prayers, turn out the light,
Then tiptoe softly to the door ...
I wish I'd stayed a minute more.
For life is short, the years rush past ...
A little boy grows up so fast.
No longer is he at
your side,
His precious secrets to confide.
The teddy bears are put away,
There are no longer games to play,
No goodnight kiss, no prayers to hear ...
That all belongs to yesteryear..
My hands once
busy, now are still.
The days are long and hard to fill.
I wish I could go back and do
The little things you asked me to.

"Do you think you'll ever have another
child?"
"No, when you achieve perfection you
might as well quit."
From "Hi & Lois" cartoon

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances
you may
have against one another. Forgive as the Lord has forgiven you.
Colossians 3:13

one size fits all, and nobody
minds if you exchange it.

A Sure Way to a Happy Day
Happiness is something we create in our
mind.
It's not something you search for and so seldom find -
It's just waking up and beginning the day
By counting our blessings and kneeling to pray -
It's giving up thoughts that breed discontent
And accepting what comes as a "gift heaven-sent" -
It's giving up wishing for things we have not
And making the best of whatever we've got -
It's knowing that life is determined for us,
And pursuing our tasks without fret, fume or fuss -
For it's by completing what God gives us to do
That we find real contentment and real happiness too.

Threads of Friendship
Thank you for the laughter,
The good times that we share,
Thanks for always listening,
For trying to be fair.
Thank you for your comfort,
When things are going bad,
Thank you for your shoulder,
To cry on when I’m sad.
This gift is a reminder,
That all my lifetime through
I’ll be thanking Heaven for
A special friend like you.

Don't Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will.
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with the twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out:
Don't give up through the pace seems slow.
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
that you must not quit.

Spirit of life and health, I ask,
Renew my body for all its tasks.
Make me strong and full of life,
Hear my call and banish strife.
Your gift of health I seek to share,
Hold me in your loving care.
Nutrients of the earth will ever be,
Soothing protection surrounding me.
With vital life my body fills,
Leaving room for no more ills.
Perfect health for all to see,
As I will it, so it will be.

He was born in an obscure village.
He worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty.
He then became an itinerant preacher.
He never held an office.
He never had a family or owned a house.
He didn’t go to college.
He had no credentials but himself.
All the armies that ever marched,
And all the navies that ever sailed
All the parliaments that ever sat,
and all the kings that ever reigned
have not affected the life of man on this earth as much as he.
Nineteen centuries have come and gone,
and today he is the central figure
of the human race ... Jesus Christ
